8th Grade Football
Wilson’s 8th grade football season had a lot of ups, by having 6 wins. But the season also had some downs with 2 loses. The reason we had those 2 loses was because in our minds we thought “Oh we won the conference last year and we can beat any team”, little did we know, both Geneseo teams would actually put up a fight against us. Both games they surprised us by scoring right off the bat and in our minds we were thinking “Dang these teams are actually kind of good.”
Luckily we came back and scored.
Then they came back and scored again. It was a tight race the entire game. We scored 3 times but every time we scored the refs called a block in the back so they took all of our touchdowns away. And I think that made us sad and mad inside and that just tore us apart.
We ended up losing both games by just 1 touchdown.
Now let's talk about the ups in our season with all of our dubs. The first game of the season was against Edison. We started off pretty good with a score of 20-8. At halftime, we talked about how all we needed to do was get a couple of more touchdowns then hold them. And that's exactly what we did and the final score was 34-14.
The second game was against Glenview and we didn't know what to expect because the prior year we only beat them by 1 touchdown. So we were a little nervous because we didn’t know what to expect from them. We won 46-24.
The third game was against Alleman. The week before the game we didn’t know what to expect. We thought we were going to kill them because they forfeited last year. But they took us by surprise. It was only 8-8 at halftime. During halftime, Coach said the only thing we have to do was stop that running. We won 26-8.
The fourth game was vs. Geneseo White and we already know how that went. We took that L. The fifth game was supposed to be against Northeast but they forfeited. The sixth game was Geneseo Green and we also lost to them too.
The seventh game against Galesburg was probably our best game of the season. It was our best part of our season because for one, last year they beat us 48-12. Two, our line blocked for every play. And three, we ran every play the correct way. In all, we just played amazing. I think everything just clicked for us. And the best part about it was we won 40 -12.
The eighth and final game was against our rivals, John Deere. In the locker room before we left for our game our coach told us to calm down because we were too hyped for the game and he didn’t want us to hype up too much and then throw the game away. So we had to calm down and finally, right before the game we got to get real hype and we all stoop in a big huddle and started chanting stuff. his game was just as good as the game before against Galesburg. I mean we were on fire, and we did almost everything to perfection. I think we just carried over from last game because we beat our rivals 30-0 to become the city champs.
I think we had a good year. We didn’t win the conference but we did great as a team. Overall, we had a fun, amazing, great year and overall we just had a good time and that's what everyone wants, right?
